The Eighth Dino

The Eighth Doctor Who was a bit of an odd duck. Appearing on screen only in the TV movie, he was meant to act as a kind of bridge between the old series and a new one, which could appeal to a wider (i.e. American) audience.

A series like that did eventually happen, but unfortunately he wouldn’t be part of it (though he did appear in a lot of non-TV material, such as books and radio plays).  As he was something of a transitional object himself, I thought the bird-like Archaeopteryx would be a perfect fit for the “half-human” doctor.

The Seventh Dino

And here we have the Seventh Doctor Who, in the form of an Ankylosaurus. My all time favorite Doctor, I probably watched more of this version than any other growing up. Conveniently enough, he happened to be a good fit for one of my all time favorite dinosaurs as well. :)

The Sixth Dino

My first exposure to Doctor Who, like most Americans of my age range, was the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker), since he had the longest run of any actor on-air and was shown most often on PBS here in the US. But I’d say the Sixth and Seven incarnations probably made more of a lasting impression on me when I watched the show as a kid.

I don’t remember much of specific adventures of the Sixth Doctor, but I do recall him seeming to have a manic quality to him, especially soon after he regenerated. And it was from this impression of him that I thought a Velociraptor would fit him best.

The Fifth Dino

Here we have another Doctor Who, as portrayed by a Pachycephalosaurus. I thought the Fifth Doctor’s kinda goofy hair cut and penchant for hats seemed apt for replacement with this dinosaur’s thick skull. At least that seemed right in my head…

Markus Monday

Just something I drew for fun – this is a character I came up with a while back, for the 24 Hour Comic I did in 2009.

Haven’t really done much with him since, other than entering him AngelCrusher’s $2 Fighter tournament on deviantArt last year. But you never know, he might come back one of these days…

Said 24 hour comic can be seen here: 24 Hours to Doomsday!

The Third Dino

And here we have the third Doctor Who as dinosaur – this time in the form of a Brachiosaurus. I’m not entirely sure why, but it just seemed to fit for the third Doctor.

The Second Dino

Continuing my series of Doctor Who as dinosaurs, here’s the 2nd Doctor as an Iguanadon – another one of the very earliest dinosaurs to be named and documented.

The First Dino

Last month, for the relatively new holiday of Dinosaur Day, I drew Doctor Who as an Allosaurus. I couldn’t let that be the last time the world sees a Dinosaur Time Lord, so I’ve now completed the other 10 incarnations of the Doctor in their prehistoric forms.

I’ll be posting one each weekday for the next couple of weeks, starting with this – the First Doctor as a Megalosaurus, which seemed appropriate, as it was the first type of dinosaur to be described and recorded.
