The First Dino

Last month, for the relatively new holiday of Dinosaur Day, I drew Doctor Who as an Allosaurus. I couldn’t let that be the last time the world sees a Dinosaur Time Lord, so I’ve now completed the other 10 incarnations of the Doctor in their prehistoric forms.

I’ll be posting one each weekday for the next couple of weeks, starting with this – the First Doctor as a Megalosaurus, which seemed appropriate, as it was the first type of dinosaur to be described and recorded.

Remember, Remember…

This was an idea (based loosely on the V for Vendetta movie posters) I had the last time I watched Back to the Future and realized the integral “date” happened to be Guy Fawkes Day. I really don’t know how I’d never noticed this the hundreds of other times I’d watched the Back to the Future Trilogy over the years….

I think I may go back and redo this at some point and spruce it up. But for now I just wanted to get the idea out of my head and onto paper.

Fringe

Some character sketches from what is easily my favorite show on TV right now. I’m super-psyched that it’ll be back on tonight – that was a long 2 weeks to go without (thanks a lot, baseball…).

Smarmy Potter

It wasn’t my original intent to make Harry look like such a punk-ass, but I think it somehow fits. I started inking this and am not really pleased with how it was turning out, but wanted to share the pencils. Thankfully I thought to get a hi-res scan of this before charging ahead with the inks….

Blink and Chamber – Inked

I inked these up a while back and just realized I’d never actually posted them here. These were originally going to be for a jam piece that’s unfortunately probably not happening now, so I figured I should ink them up for practice. They *may* also end up with color at some point….

Spidey Sketch, An Awesome Artist & Anthology Update

I spent the afternoon today, sketching with my friends in the Comicsmiths’ Guild, over at Lightning Comics in Coeur d’Alene. We had a good time, and had a pretty decent turn-out of people.

I wasn’t very good about taking pictures this time around, but did make sure to get a shot of this one, which I was pretty happy with. It was actually for the daughter of one of the other local artists who was there drawing – Joshua Covey.

Josh is an incredibly talented (and pretty darn nice) guy – he’s had some indy comic work published, along with illustrating an acclaimed children’s book (Nobody Cares About Jimmy), and will soon be seen in an upcoming Dark Horse Comics series. Oh, and he also did the awesome cover (seen below) for the second Guild Anthology comic! So, yeah, you should definitely check him out.

And speaking of the second Anthology – we had the first copies for sale today at the sketch event, fresh from the printers. They’re available for sale locally for now – you can of course order them from the Guild and we can figure out shipping costs to your location. We should have them available on IndyPlanet soon as well, along with the first Anthology.

Free Sketches!

Just wanted to let folks know I’ll be at Lightning Comics in Coeur d’Alene, ID this Saturday the 29th, drawing free sketches for customers from Noon to 3 pm. I’ll be there with my friends in the Comicsmiths’ Guild, as part of Lightning’s Halloween weekend event.

They will be having their annual costume contest at 1pm, and we’ll also have the first copies of the 2nd Comicsmiths’ Guild Anthology available for sale. Hope to see everyone there!

Happy Dinosaur Day!

Dinosaur Day is a relatively new holiday dreamt up by my good buddy Matt Nelson, as an excuse each year (on October 15th) to draw cool pictures of dinosaurs, put them on the internet, and revel in how awesome dinosaurs innately are.

This year I thought “what could possibly be more awesome than a dinosaur?” The answer, of course, is a time traveling dinosaur! And so I present – The 4th Dino:
